About Parrots

There are around 372 parrot species in the world mostly distributed in tropical and sub-tropical areas.

Distribution

America native parrots

Macaws, Amazon Parrots, Barraband's Parrots, Quaker Parrots, Brotogeris, Caiques, Pionus, Canary-winged Parakeets, Carolina Parakeets, Grey-breasted Parakeets, Grey-cheeked Parakeets, Monk Parakeets, …

United States: the Thick-billed Parrot and the Carolina conure now extinct, the Puerto Rican Amazon is the remaining native parrot in United States.

Africa native parrots

African Grey Parrots, Senegal Parrots, Meyer's Parrots, Vasa Parrots. African Ringneck Parrots, Cape Parrots, Lovebirds, Niam-Niam Parrots, Poicephalus, etc.

Australia native parrots

Cockatoos, Grass Parakeets, King Parrots, Mula Parrots, (Australian) Ring-neck Parakeets, Princess Parrots, Rosellas, Budgies / Budgerigars, Bourke's Parakeets, Cockatiels, etc.

However, many feral parrots have established themselves in California, Florida, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Arizona, Hawaii and Texas.

New Zealand native parrots

Kakariki, Red-fronted Parakeets, Alpine Parakeets, Antipodes Island / Green Parakeets, Antipodes Red-Fronted Parakeets, Black-fronted Parakeets, Chatham Red-fronted Parakeets, Kaka or Nestor Parrots, Kakapo Parrots.

European feral parakeets

Some feral parakeets, such as ringnecks, are now living wild in various European cities such as London.
